Back On Track

After all my blunders on my Westport Blanket, I’m finally back on track!

I have worked the initial garter border section for 3.5 inches (ish). And I have just now started the first pattern repeat. I managed to make it through halfway through the first pattern repeat before PB woke up and demanded my attention. I’m super in love with the pattern that is emerging.

The stockinette panels are really showing up well in this yarn. This is Knit Picks Mighty Stitch held double. I’m using the Celestial colorway.  This is the perfect halfway project between mindless knitting and just enough interest to keep me working. A few rows of patterning followed by a swath of garter.

I have no deadline for this project and I find myself picking this project up as a palette cleanser on my “bad brain days” or in between other projects. It’s kind of nice to have a peaceful project tucked away waiting for me. Do you have a peaceful project?

A Day-Glow Heel

My Easter weekend travails was a really good kick in the pants to keep my Gonna Need Sunglasses Vanilla Socks going. Weeks ago I had cast on the toe and left this sock languish in my bedside table.  And this no-thinking knitting was perfect for a busy and egg filled holiday weekend.

The heel turn is complete and I now have an inch (or more-ish) of leg completed. I have a bugger of time photographing this knit because it’s SO bright. I’m hoping that this sock will turn into movie knitting and the hubby will take me to Avengers Endgame. But time and babysitter availability will tell.

Jellybean LOVES that this project is living in my BB-8 project bag. He can’t understand why I don’t name these “BB-8 Socks”. He is a nerd and comes by it naturally through his dad. But Jellybean does approve of the colors and asked if he could have the leftovers to play with. I’ll convert this child to fiber arts yet!

Happy Knitting!!

Knitting Instead of Sleeping

Today is the final episode in my Easter knitting saga. After knitting in the car and then knitting on the deck I managed to squeeze a few more minutes here and there in between hunting eggs and I wanted to show you my final weekend progress. I am working the heel turn! Though this progress might have been at the expense of some sleep on my part. I definitely didn’t stay up past my bedtime trying to squeeze in a few more stitches.

Everyone who spied my sock over the weekend remarked “my that’s bright” and I responded “yes, I know and I love it!”. At this point I have worked through the all the colors in the colors in the progression and have started over. Now I just need to zoom up the leg and viola! I’ll have a sock!

Happy Knitting!!

Knitting Al Fresco

So today’s knitting photo is also courtesy of Easter weekend. My parents have a gorgeous deck on the front of their house. It overlooks a football field (named after my father) and thicket of trees that are just waking up for spring!

I managed to knit a good three inches of foot during our car trip to my parents. And the brisk Kansas breeze and some fresh air really did my soul good while the grandparents chased the babies. The only bummer is that I found a tick crawling on me as they are THICK this year. Ah….country living!

Knit While They Sleep

Easter time usually means travel time for us. We packed up the human babies and the fur babies and headed for the grandparents. My dad was making prime rib so I was highly motivated!

It was almost perfect kismet that that PB fell asleep and Jellybean was content his movie and I got to knit! I pulled out my Gonna Need Sunglasses Vanilla socks and started going merrily round and round.

You have to knit while they sleep!!

I Might Have To Revoke My Knitter Card

So all this week I have been fighting with my Westport Blanket and having all kinds of trouble. As I was knitting last night it really started to sink in that my work didn’t really look anything like the pattern picture. I think I have found the source of my problem….I PRINTED THE WRONG PATTERN FROM MY LIBRARY! I also own the Brookside Blanket also by Fifty Four Ten Studio and accidentally printed that from Ravelry.

As you can see, this pattern photo looks MUCH more like what was I was knitting than what I showed in my post on Tuesday.

Now, this pattern and blanket are lovely. But they just aren’t what I intended. And since the border edge is already messed up on one side I’m just going to frog the entire thing and start over WITH THE CORRECT PATTERN this time. Man, I can be really silly sometimes but I might have to turn my knitter card in over this one though.

Off to the frog pond I go!

Westport Blanket Blunder

I picked up my Westport Blanket last night to continue progress and listen to some podcasts. Well, I *thought* had the pattern sequence in my brain and was only half looking at my pattern. I might have also consumed an ice cold alcoholic beverage after dinner because work has been less than pleasant lately. And I was knitting along and laughing at my podcast just so pleased with myself! Then a blunder hit me smack dab in the forehead!

See my two borders of the blanket? Yeah…one is a sort of broken stitch and one is a weird ribbing. I mis-read (or didn’t read at all) one of the border row instructions and just blithely knit along. I’m putting this in time out until I have the fortitude to ladder down and fix the three columns that are wrong.

I really should know better by now. But I guess this is just another opportunity to learn! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Westport Blanket

I have conquered the annoying yarn vomit and managed to start my baby blanket! With my Mighty Stitch held double I just over 600 yards for a blanket. So I did a quick search of my queue and favorites and found the Westport Blanket by Fifty Four Ten Studio.

So after the kids went to bed I managed to get a good start on the blanket. I have enough yarn for the Small size. It’s supposed to be crib or lap sized. I didn’t check gauge (bad knitter, I know) so I don’t know if I’ll end up with the pattern dimensions. Ask me if I care? 🙂

You just gotta love bulky yarn on big needles right? Even with my limited knitting time I feel like I accomplished something decent!

I Just Wanted To Knit

I have been Wishful Knitting some sort of easy baby project. I have some Knit Picks Mighty Stitch kicking around in my stash. I had 1,248 of Celestial blue hanging out. It’s 80% acrylic/20% wool and good for baby knits. I made a Mighty Rainbow blanket for PB and while it’s very snuggley it does pill and shed a tiny bit. So it’s definitely not great for garments so I decided to go with a blanket. And to expedite the blanket making I decided to hold this worsted double to make bulky/super bulky.

Well…then yarn vomit jumped up and bit me. I am TERRIBLE at finding the ends in these pre-wound skeins. I dug around to find the ends and pulled out yarn tangles. So now instead of knitting….I get to untangle yarn. Sigh!

I just wanted to knit!!

FO Friday: Faded Fingerless Mitts

My Faded Fingerless Gloves are finished! They practically flew off the needles!

Pattern: Fingerless Gloves by Cheryl Goyer

Needles: US 5s

Yarn: One Twisted Lavish DK in Chaotic Nuetral and Anzula Ava in Raspberry

Mods: added a fading sequence from Andrea Mowry’s Free Your fade Shawl

I didn’t get my yarn measured exactly in half. So in the second glove I did not have enough grey to make the full cuff and complete the full fade sequence. I knew I was in yarn chicken territory so I altered it on the fly. They definitely don’t match but I honestly don’t care. I used 90 yards of the Lavish (grey) and 73 yards of the Anzula (pink). This used up every last inch of the grey and left a small ball of the pink to put in my memory blanket.

I didn’t manage to snag a photo of the gloves with the coordinating shawl. Perhaps when Spring gets into full swing around here I can get some decent outdoor photos? This project just made me super happy to both have a matching peice and to use up some golden skeins of yarn to the very last bit!

Happy Knitting!!
