Happy New Years to all! Now, maybe it was pregnancy in general or the fact that PB (the nickname I have given this fetus = picky baby) has rejected most things I have tried to eat lately……but I NEEDED rolled sugar cookies this holiday. It was just an irrational craving I could not kick.
I baked a batch two weeks before Christmas and then promptly got an upper respiratory virus and didn’t get anything done for 15 days. I was disappointed the cookies were stale by the time I was ready to frost them. So on Christmas weekend I baked a fresh batch and nabbed some buttercream and decorations from my Aunt Barb. And boy howdy did I go to town!
Everyone else cleared out to go to Ferdinand and I had three hours of peace and frosted quietness. My decorating skills leave something to be desired but the cookies were scrumptious and JUST what I wanted. The cookies didn’t last long either!
What was your holiday craving this year?
I was killing time in Micheals (a tough job, I know) after Christmas waiting for my aunt to finish her shopping. I wandered into the Christmas clearance isle and spotted this…
A coffee cup with a cable and stockinette design! This puppy was $9.99 on sale for $1.99! How could I not buy this as a knitter!?
My husband would kill me if I brought more coffee cups in the house so this cup went straight to work to be pretty and functional on my desk. 😄
I must have been a very good girl this year!
Size 9 US glass needles with rose tips from Knitting Dharma.
Knitty Sock 2 by Two Windows Dye Company in a semi-solid purple color. This is a new to me dyer from my home state of Kansas!
And last but not least
The Joy of Socks by Linda Kopp! And the best part my mother-in-law did this all without even asking for a hint!
All jokes aside, I wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas. I’m off to go watch the magic of Christmas through my toddlers eyes! Knitting can wait because babies do not ❤️
Happy Knitting and Merry Christmas!
We have a very active and “helpful” 14 month old in the house. And tis the season for for holiday decorations! I thought Jellybean deserved his own toddler safe tree.
A little felt from Joanns and one nap time later….he had a tree!
It was a huge hit! Until he found the 3M strips holding it up and took it off the wall. Oh well, it was an hour of fun anyway!
Only 24 more days to Christmas!
I came down with a nasty sinus infection the Tuesday before turkey day. And knowing I would be stuck with a cranky baby who hates sleeping while traveling….I went to the express care clinic. After an hour I snagged some meds and care instructions, but I also found another knitter in the wild!
A lovely older women was smiling at me from across the waiting area so I smiled back. She called me out on my knitting and not only correctly identified it as knitting but that it was also a sock. Brilliant!
I didn’t get a chance to chat after that as I was called back to my appointment. I wonder if she had knitting in her purse?
I’m putting away Christmas in my house today and I just couldn’t resist one last holiday shot. My every thoughtful mother found this ornament for me! It’s so gorgeous I’m considering hanging it up all year round 🙂
Happy Saturday to all! I’m off the gym to remove the holidays from my waistline!
P.S. anyone want to help me get my shoes and socks on tomorrow as I’m sure the residual soreness shall prevent me from completing the task myself?
This pretty much how I feel….
I’m all Christmas’d out. Don’t get me wrong I loved every minute of it. But I’m exhausted!!! I spent five wonderful days with my husband and fur babies at my parents. It was a delightful break from the “real world” but boy did we work hard.
In five days we completed the following:
- Butchered out 1 1/2 deer
- Made 10 lbs of deer jerky
- Defrosted and scrubbed all five of Grandma’s refrigerators and deep freezers (and threw 3 trash bins of crap away)
- Baked 20 loaves of rye bread
- Cooked three family dinners
- And celebrated two Christmases
I got almost no knitting done, which was NOT the plan with five days off of work. I did manage to read a few chapters in the Yarn Whisperer. I took my Abalone and Sophisticate with me in hopes of finishing both. Yeah right…
We got just the slightest hint of snow so I took advantage and had some lovely walks with the fur babies. It was a nice way to take a break from the full house of shenanigans and to walk off all the holiday goodies! The dogs also LOVED the snow! Just FYI, I came home with three abominable snow creatures, lol.
Now I take you back to your regularly scheduled knitting!
May your season be merry and bright. May all your loved ones be safe, warm, and together!
