FO Friday: True Blue Fingerless Mitts

While on vacation I managed to finish my True Blue Fingerless Mitts!

I JUST squeaked by with enough yarn to finish. I’m finally done with the mega skein of the Hansen Hand Dyed merino!

The Ravelry details of my project are here in case anyone is interested. I made the pattern up myself and tried to take good notes.

The only slight bummer was the thumb hole on mitt #2. It turned out a bit to large and gapey after the crochet edge. So I used some waste yarn and closed it up a bit to make it fit better. But all in all I’m very pleased with with and can’t wait to wear them.

Ps. As I finished these it was literally 111 in Topeka with a heat index of 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Asphalt literally got too hot and buckled. It might be awhile before I need these!

Happy Knitting

FO Friday: Terribly Simple

My Terribly Simple is blocked and dry. I am beyond thrilled!

Pattern: Terribly Simple by Caitlin ffrench

Yarn: Hansen Hand Dyes Mega Merino for contrast color and T&H Fiber Works Heathers Favorite Sock for the main color. I used 74 yards of CC and 328 yards of MC.

Needle: US 5

Mods: Striped in a contrast color rather than the called for solid color in the pattern

I was extremely pleased withe finished result. The finished object is a perfectly squishy garter shawl that is long enough and skinny enough to be a lovely winter accessory. Seeing as it’s above 95 here in Kansas right now, I didn’t take any modeled shots. I just could bring myself to sweat that much!

Above is the right side of the garter. And below is the wrong side.

I think they both are aesthetically pleasing! I hope this means that no matter how I wear this one that it will be totally gorgeous. Happy Knitting!!

Happiness in Blue

My True Blue Fingerless Gloves were well on their way last we spoke. Well some decent toddler bedtimes this week led to some more progress. The first mitt is done!

I was able to rejoin in the round after my thumb opening was big enough. After that I zoomed up the hand and finished with more 2×2 ribbing!

After I finished the ribbing I knew I wanted to secure the thumb hole a bit more. So I got a teeny tiny crochet hook and SC around the opening. I had enough yarn left over to do three rounds. It really helped to stabilize the hole and create a more polished opening. The actual crochet part was terrible as the yarn was very splity with the teeny tiny and pointy crochet hook. But I survived.

I am over the moon with this mitt. The fit is amazing and the finished size right on the nose for what I wanted. I am already started on the second mitt! Now, I realize that not having another all day conference right away that I may not finish the second as fast as the first. But watch me try….

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Nangou

Done done done! May I present Nangou!

Pattern: Nangou by Melanie Berg

Needles: US 5s

Yarn: Hansen Hand Dyes Mega Merino in Boys Don’t Cry for main color. And T&H Fiberworks Favorite Sock in Blue Suede Shoes for contrast color.

Mods: none

This is just so squishy and nice! The pattern is fab and easy to follow. Melanie Berg is just amazing. The main color was a little splitty but not unwieldy. I’m very glad I didn’t add extra sections cuz this thing is massive!

I’m over the moon with this and can’t wait to wear it next fall! Proof…..I took outdoor photos in the 95 degree heat!

Happy Knitting!

Nangou Needs Blocking

The knitting of my Nangou is done!!

Here she is in all her unblocked glory! After a good spa day I’ll tuck in the ends just in time to take better photos and put this away for summer.

The bind off took an entire evening! But I’m just so pleased with this. I love the colors and the squishy garter stitch. I can’t wait to see it blocked and finished!

Happy Knitting!!

WIP Wednesday: Nangou Shawl

I’m three contrast stripes in! My Nangou is growing despite being close to 300 stitches per row.

I have to finish the current MC section then add another CC section and then finally add the last MC section and bind off. Between the pleasing colors and the rhythm of garter I’m fairly dedicated to this project. I’ve been rewatching The West Wing along with listening to the West Wing Weekly podcast and this project is a great match to Knitflixing.

I have enough yarn to add more sections and I’m torn. The pattern schematic tells me this is going to be 70 inches wide. Well….I didn’t check gauge so I’m not sure if I’m going to be ahead or behind of that. I want something big and squishy this leading me to adding another section. But I’m also ready to finish this and admire the finished pretty. I guess time will tell what I decide when I get closer to the end, lol.

Happy Knitting!
