FO Friday: Mere’s Heart Mitts

I finished Mere’s Heart Mitts….

I am pleased with them as a project as a whole. I don’t like that I didn’t get the placement of the heart just perfect on the right mitt. But when you put them on it’s much less noticeable. (p.s. the app on my phone that mashes photos together is a great way to get photos of yourself wearing mitts if you don’t have a photography assistant handy)

These are pair of mitts of my own improvisation. My Ravelry pattern notes can be found here. I only used 1/3 of the skein so I have plenty to make a second set. But honestly….I don’t want to. This yarn is perfect for Mere. She is fun and spunky and just about the most beautiful person on the planet. I know she will love these. They are her…..just not me. If I knit them I honestly wouldn’t wear them. The highly variegated nature just doesn’t show the heart as well as I would like. And the colors don’t really match anything in my wardrobe.

I did some noodling on this because I still wanted to have something to “match” her so we could be hand knit buddies from across the country. I think I will make a pair of shorty socks with the remainder of the skein. I will work the heart chart into maybe the toe or possibly on top of the foot. I can wear any color inside my boots and then I will just feel the love on my toes instead of my fingers!

Now if you will excuse me, I need to get these babies wrapped up and ready to gift to Mere! Happy Knitting!!

Not Bad For A First Try

My mittens for my bff are growing quickly. Now these really are fairly quick because they are small and worked in the round in stockinette. I zoomed through the cuff, installed the thumb and worked in my heart chart.

It’s not exactly dead center where I wanted it. But given that it’s not entirely visible I’m not going to fuss about it. I’ve the first mitt done except the thumb. And I’m going to start the second one momentarily. Now by the grace of the knitting gods I’m going to make sure and pay attention for the second glove. I know I need to place the heart on the opposite side of the glove so the right hand has the heart on the back and not the palm.

Think I will remember?

Cast On: Mere’s Heart Mitts

Awhile back my dearest friend from college sent me a sweet gift from the Pacific North West… lovely skeins of some Knitted Wit Victory Sock in the fiesta color way. I couldn’t shake this idea of making the two of us a pair of matching mitts. It’s been one of those project ideas I just couldn’t shake. I want to do something nice for her and maybe send her a little love in the form of knitted stitches.

I pulled and wound one skein of the sock yarn and cast on this vision I had. I am picturing finger-less gloves with a little reverse stockinette heart on the back of the hand. I’m going to use the basic mitt recipe from some gift gloves I’ve knit in the past. Now I just need to figure out the heart size and placement…

Happy Knitting!!

Happy New Year and Happy New Yarn!

For many reasons the end of 2016 was pretty crappy for me. Christmas not withstanding because Christmas with a two year old is just awesome. (And no it’s not because any certain celebrity died.) The last quarter of 2016 was just one personal gut punch after another and that’s all I will say. A dear friend from college, bridesmaid in my wedding (ahem…almost 10 years ago), and definitely a knit worthy friend mailed me a care package. And it was yarn of course! She is a resident of the Pacific Northwest and has at her doorstep some of the best yarns in the US. At least in my opinion

She sent me two skeins of beautiful Knitted Wit Victory Sock in the Fiesta color. When I opened the package I sent her this photo…

Since I have two skeins of this yarn I think I’m envisioning a pair of socks for me. And the second skein will become a set of matching finger-less gloves. One pair for me and a pair for her.

My life is blessed and I know that. I have a warm house, food to eat, and people who love me. But during the crappy times it really is nice to know someone notices and takes the time to do something to try to make it better. So if you need it right now I’m sending you a digital hug right now……

Happy Knitting!
